Urban Training Facility and Close Quarters Battle Range

Camp Pendleton, California

The Close Quarters Battle Range is a two level concrete frame hostage recovery training structure. The interior of the structure is a maze of small rooms lined with a stretched rubber air space system over hardened steel plates. There are no firing lanes or permanent target locations; all of the interior walls of the facility are designed to be used as bullet traps. The instructors watch through poly carbonate windows from catwalks on the exterior walls of the facility while the troop practices room clearing and hostage recovery techniques inside. A very large and sophisticated air handling system provides clean air for the range, and cleans the exhaust through a bank of HEPA filters.
